Essie began her insurance career in 1981 with American Reliance Insurance Company in Salisbury. She obtained her Maryland Property & Casualty Insurance license in 1987, the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation in 1989 and the Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) in 2006. She worked for other insurance agencies in Maryland before joining the Avery Hall Insurance Agency in 2005 as Commercial Lines Account Manager.

Essie is active in her Church and volunteers for several organizations such as the Wicomico Youth Mentoring program and Hope and Life Outreach (HALO) Code Blue Women‟s Shelter in Salisbury, Md.
