OUR HISTORY
Treating people right the first time and every time you meet them was the philosophy that the late Avery Hall instilled in his employees in the year 1925 when he first founded Avery W. Hall Insurance Agency, Inc. It’s that same philosophy that drives the success of the insurance group today.
On the firm's 40th anniversary, Hall wrote to his employees, “always remember that we are dealing with people and people like to be respected. When someone comes into our office we should always be conscious of maintaining dignity, courtesy and understanding."
At the group’s 80th anniversary celebration, President Tom Wisniewski reiterates, "We treat people the way we want to be treated." This standard of business practices has earned Avery Hall recognition among its peers as a leader in the insurance industry and by its policyholders who voted Avery Hall the best Agency on the Shore. "Dedicated staff”, Wisniewski adds, "is the largest contributor to the agency's continued success." Dedication may be an understatement when describing the employees at Avery Hall as they boast an average of more than 15 years experience each. Experience and the number of insurance carriers Avery Hall represents enables them to provide the best insurance coverages available at the most affordable prices.
At its roots, Avery W. Hall Insurance Agency, Inc. met the needs of businesses and families by providing insurance coverages against property and liability losses. In 1984, responding to requests from clients seeking health insurance and employer's seeking affordable benefits for its employees, Avery Hall Life Insurance Agency, Inc. was founded. Headed by president, Mike Eusebio, the goal of this branch is to provide insurance that is affordable and accessible to everyone. Mike and his staff actively participate in the legislative process and advocate for clients who need help paying for their coverage through Maryland's lower cost alternative for health insurance, MHIP. Eusebio said the compassion of people that he works with is a given. "With my staff, it just comes naturally. They care about the employer groups they work with. They're not clients, they're friends. They have formed lasting relationships with their customers – and with each other."
More growth of the Avery Hall group erupted when Patriot Insurance merged into the group in 1990. This arm of the Avery Hall Group, headed by Pat Boccia became known as AWH, Inc. It specializes in construction and contractor bonding services. Since it’s addition to the group, AWH has bonded in excess of one hundred million of construction on Delmarva and also provides permit and licensing bonds to the trades.
Another expansion took place in 1994 when health insurance rules changed forcing small employers to purchase new policies. Richard Prettyman and Cindy Whaley partnered to form Avery Hall Employee Benefits Services, Inc. in Easton. As brokers, they represent a number of insurance companies and products, both medical and non-medical, such as life, disability and voluntary plans giving employers and individuals more choices. Today they enjoy preferred status with the three major health insurance carriers: CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Coventry and the United Healthcare family including MAMSI and Optimum Choice.
Responding to another call from its clients to provide affordable life insurance Avery Hall Planning was born in 1994. Headed by Sheila Caseley this branch provides long cerm care insurance, life insurance and financial planning to include: annuities, 401ks, & IRAs.
In 1999 The Avery Hall group purchased Calloway, Farnell & Moore Insurance agency in Seaford. Joe Gast reorganized this branch and named it Farnell & Gast, LLC, an Avery Hall Affiliate. This enhancement to the Avery Hall Group gave them a Delaware hub. Now they can reach more new clients in Delaware and better serve their existing Delaware clientele. While Farnell & Gast, LLC focuses primarily on homeowners, automobile and business insurance, its affiliation with the Avery Hall Goup provides its clients access to all of the services provided by the other branches.
More expansion in Delaware was accomplished by the Avery Hall group’s purchase of Brittingham & Williams, LLC in Millsboro DE and another office renamed to RFJL Insurance in Bridgeville DE. These offices focus on homeowners, automobile and business insurance. They are key additions the Avery Hall Insurance Group in that they further expand the group’s boundaries granting more Delaware residents access to all of the group’s services.
Today, the Avery Hall Insurance Group is 69 employees strong. The Salisbury location has just been remodeled to provide a more “worker-friendly” environment for its employees and state-of-the-art automation to better serve their clients. “Together with its experienced staff and the new influx of college graduates wanting to join our field, the future of Avery Hall is bright, says Tom Wisniewski. “We’ll match our expertise and professionalism against any agency, Avery Hall will stand out above others. We’ve been serving Delmarva for 85 years and another 85 is not out of the equation.”
